Offer link checks
Every running campaign's offer URL opened on a schedule, with alerts when one stops working. Off until you switch it on. For network admins.
An advertiser rebuilds their site, lets a domain or certificate expire, or takes an offer down — and every click you send there is wasted until someone notices. With automatic checks switched on, the platform opens each running campaign's offer URL on a schedule (hourly unless you change it), follows its redirects and reports the result. Two failures in a row mark the link down and alert the team. Automatic checks are off by default: turn them on with the switch at the top of this tab.
Fields and settings
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Status | The latest verdict for the campaign's offer link. Values: Working answered normally (any 2xx or a redirect that ends somewhere that answers); Failed once one failed check — not yet an outage; checked again at the next run; Down two or more failed checks in a row: page not found (404/410), a server error (5xx), a domain that no longer resolves, a refused connection, an SSL certificate problem, no answer within 10 seconds, or a redirect loop; Blocked checks the advertiser's server refuses automated requests (401, 403, 429, 503, bot walls). Never alerts: the link may be fine for real visitors; Not checked the URL points at a private or local address, so it's never requested. |
| Automatic offer link checks (On / Off) | Off by default. On: every running campaign's offer URL is opened on the interval set on the Rules tab, and dead links alert the team. Off: nothing is opened automatically; Check now on a row still works. Setting offerLinkMonitorEnabled (alerts section); a 5-minute tick runs runOfferLinkChecks() only while it is true. Depends on: Needs the Settings permission. It's the same switch as Check offer links automatically on the Rules tab. Effect: Turning it on asks you to confirm, because advertisers can see the visits. The first automatic run starts within 5 minutes. |
| Lands on | The domain the link finally landed on after redirects. When it changes (for example to a parked-domain page), the previous domain is shown so you can spot a hijacked or expired offer. |
How to use it
- Switch Automatic offer link checks on at the top of the tab (it's off until you do) and confirm.
- Use Needs a look to see links that are down, failing, blocked or have changed where they land.
- Press Check now on a row to re-test one link immediately, or Check all now after an advertiser fixes several.
- For a down link: ask the advertiser for the new URL, and pause the campaign or add a fallback rule meanwhile.
Limitations
- Depends on: Each check visits the offer once with click_id=linkcheck, so advertisers may see these visits in their own logs — which is why automatic checks start off. Switch them off again at the top of this tab if an advertiser objects.
- Not supported: Only whether the page loads is checked — not its content, so an offer page that says "offer expired" with a 200 answer looks fine.
- Restricted: Addresses inside private networks (localhost, 10.x, 192.168.x and so on) are never requested, even through a redirect.
Troubleshooting
- A link shows Blocked checks but works in your browser — Its server rejects automated visitors. Nothing is wrong and no alert is sent; check it by hand from time to time.
- Down because of DNS, but the advertiser says it works — The domain may resolve only in some countries or have just moved. Press Check now again; it recovers on the first successful check.
